How to deal with dental negligence.

If you believe you have endured below-par dental treatment, you may be entitled to claim compensation. Dental negligence claims can be made providing you have proof of any injury or illness sustained after your appointment at the dentist and if your claim is within three years of the treatment.

You can be sure that you suffered poor treatment from your dentist if they assured you they knew what they were doing but did a less than thorough job, causing you more pain than before. Even if a routine check-up goes wrong, you could be entitled to claim compensation against them.

Everyone should have the comfort of knowing that when visiting the dentist, the dentist is doing everything right. Dentistry is a difficult profession, but only those with the relevant skills and qualifications should be able to provide their services, especially if they charge you for the privilege of having an operation on your teeth.

At Dental Negligence Scotland, we have experienced Dentists who serve as Expert Witnesses in  court cases to assess your circumstances and advise if you have grounds for making a valid claim. If you think you have been harmed or mistreated then fill out the contact form on our website.

What are the different types of Dental Negligence?

Most people do not enjoy the experience of sitting in a dentist’s chair. Some believe that Dental treatment can not only be painful but also expensive and time-consuming. However, in order to maintain our oral hygiene standards, a visit to the dentist is required every six months.

In most cases dental procedures go well, occasionally the dentist can make a mistake or be careless with the treatment being administered. Regrettably, carelessness can cause harm to the patient, rather than relieve his/her condition.

As a result, any patient who suffers an injury due to a dentist’s mistake, can make a claim for dental negligence.

Dental Negligence Claims

There are many types of dental procedures that patients undergo to improve their oral health.

The most common types of dental negligence claims are:
  • Incorrect diagnosis – Sometimes a dentist misdiagnoses a dental disease. This can lead to more complications for the patient and may require further treatment of the disease.
  • Missed diagnosis – A dentist fails to diagnose a disease on time, leading to an increase in the complications for the patient.
  • Inadequate treatment – When procedures such as root canal and tooth extraction are not performed correctly, it can damage the patient’s oral health permanently.
  • Carelessness – A dentist’s carelessness while performing a procedure can lead to an injury to the patient.
Dental negligence can cause temporary or permanent harm to the patient. Claims can be made for dental compensation whether the treatment is carried out over a long period of time or in a single visit.
